The Education University of Hong Kong and Sophia University (Japan) Partner to Deepen Academic Exchanges and Cultural Experiences

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and Sophia University (SU), have entered into a partnership centred on a joint study programme and academic exchange. The agreement signed on December 6, 2024, at EdUHK’s Tai Po campus will also expand international cooperation and deepen cultural understanding. 


Senior management from both institutions witnessed the signing ceremony, including EdUHK president, Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, Vice President (Research and Development), Professor Chetwyn Chan Che Hin, and Graduate School Dean, Professor Michelle Gu Mingyue. The SU delegation was led by President Professor Yoshiaki Terumichi, Vice President (Global Academic Affairs),  Professor Tetsuo Morishita, and Dean of the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Professor Huang Guangwei. 


Professor Lee highlighted the complementing philosophies of both universities, with SU emphasising wisdom and EdUHK focusing on education, talent and virtue. Prof  Lee expressed his view that the solid foundations of this partnership could enrich the academic programmes in both universities, equipping students with knowledge and skills to face critical global challenges, particularly in education and environmental sustainability. In emphasising the deepening of ties, Professor Chan noted the potential for the two universities to lead high-quality research output and cultivate advanced talents.  


EdUHK Graduate School colleagues Associate Dean Professor Lee Kwai Sang, Assistant Dean Dr Chris Tsang Yiu-Fai, Chief of Staff Ms Teresa Poon and EdUHK Global Affairs Office Director Mr Siu Koon Ming witnessed the ceremony with Ms Kanae Terahira from the Office of the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies at SU.
