EdUHK Holds Flag-Raising Ceremony to Celebrate the 77th National Day
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a flag-raising ceremony this morning (1 October) on its Tai Po campus to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Attending the ceremony were Mr Tian Zhenfeng, Deputy Director-General of the Consular Department of the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; EdUHK Council Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar, Deputy Chairman Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah, President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, together with Council members, senior management, faculty, staff, students, alumni and other distinguished guests.
The flag-raising ceremony was conducted by a team comprising students from EdUHK and EdUHK Jockey Club Primary School, joined by representative students from Pentecostal Church of Hong Kong Tai Wo Nursery School and Hong Kong & Kowloon Kaifong Women’s Association Sun Fong Chung Kindergarten. As the national flag was raised, guests and students stood in solemn respect, singing the national anthem together and watching the flag ascend.
Dr Wong remarked, “It is a joyous occasion to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. As this year marks the commencement of the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan, participating in the flag-raising ceremony alongside EdUHK staff and students is especially meaningful. The nation is actively promoting the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent. We hope EdUHK will continue to leverage its unique strengths in teacher education and academic research to foster a stronger sense of national belonging and enhance identification with Chinese culture.
Professor Lee said, “The nation’s remarkable achievements today are the result of the Communist Party of China’s outstanding leadership and decades of dedicated effort. In alignment with the pace of development of the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Hong Kong's first Five-Year Plan, EdUHK will continue to uphold its mission to ‘foster virtue and nurture talent’. We will integrate proper values into our teaching and promote national security education and patriotic education. This allows us to cultivate future teachers and professionals who love our country and Hong Kong. Possessing strong personal conduct, professional ethics, and both a national and international perspective, they will be empowered to become pillars of society who contribute to the development of Hong Kong SAR and the nation.”
