EdUHK Delegation Strengthens Ties with Indonesia's Ministry of Education and Local Universities

A delegation from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), led by President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, recently visited Jakarta, Indonesia. During the visit, the delegation met with local education authorities and signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with two leading universities in education to strengthen collaboration in teacher education, research, and academic exchange.

The EdUHK delegation comprised Dr Maxwell Ho Chun-sing, Associate Co-Director of the Academy for Educational Development and Innovation; Dr Lee Ju Seong, Associate Head of the Department of English Language Education; and Dr Faye Wang Yifei, Project Manager for Internationalisation.

On 24 June, the delegation met with Professor Atip Latipulhayat, Vice Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of Indonesia.  EdUHK highlighted its past initiatives in Indonesia, including teacher development programmes and projects conducted with the World Bank and regional partners. Both sides discussed future collaboration, particularly in English education and teacher professional development.

Professor Lee emphasised that EdUHK’s long-standing commitment to advancing regional education cooperation has steadily expanded its engagement in Southeast Asia. In recent years, the University has established education research institutes and joint centres with partner universities in Kazakhstan and Brunei to support teacher education and professional development. He noted that EdUHK will continue to leverage its expertise in teacher education and language education to strengthen ties with Indonesia and regional partners, contributing to the “Belt and Road” and “Maritime Silk Road” initiatives.

During the visit, the delegation also met with Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and Universitas Negeri Jakarta, where MoUs were signed to promote collaboration in teacher education, research, student exchange, and capacity building. EdUHK will continue to expand its network of cooperation in Southeast Asia, fostering educational development and knowledge exchange through partnerships with institutions and organisations across the region.
