Interviews on the AI & Education Futures: Dr Gary Cheng Kwok-shing

Dr Gary Cheng Kwok-shing, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics and Information Technology and Executive Co-Director, Centre for Learning, Teaching, and Technology, The Education University of Hong Kong, points out that AI helps promote personalised learning and enhance teaching efficiency. For instance, it can provide students with tailored resources and data-driven feedback, freeing up teachers' time for more interaction with students. However, the responsible and ethical use of AI remains a significant challenge for both teachers and students.

Dr Cheng's research integrates chatbots with curriculum standards and pedagogical principles, which enables the assessment of student performance and provides guidance based on data feedback. It also incorporates interdisciplinary approaches, such as combining data science with advanced AI techniques, to enhance the system's comprehension and interaction capabilities. He encourages students aspiring to enter the AI industry to deepen their knowledge and skills by building a solid technical foundation, actively applying their knowledge in practice, and engaging in continuous learning to tackle the emerging challenges of the AI era.
