EdUHK offers training and activities focused on social aspects of sustainability regularly, which staff (faculty and professional staff) and students will be required to attend to enrich their profiles. These programmes aim to enhance social responsibility, problem-solving abilities, and community engagement, contributing to sustainable development.

Service-Learning

Service-learning programmes provide opportunities for participants to apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges, such as supporting underprivileged groups, assisting non-profit organisations, and engaging in rural development projects. These initiatives foster social responsibility and a commitment to community improvement.

A variety of services are organised to groom students to be “Community Carers” for service recipients. In addition to nurturing students to develop an open mind and a caring heart to understand and contribute to the community, we help them develop the character traits of caring and citizenship for whole-person development while meeting societal needs. Through resource sharing, community groups in Tai Po and Northern District gain shared benefits from civic engagement to social inclusion to build a better community.

Mental Health and Well-being Workshops

Regular workshops promote mental wellness through various activities, such as stress management sessions, critical thinking seminars, and therapy dog programmes.

Specific training series include:

  1. Psychological Wellness Series: Various talks and workshops are organised to enhance students' understanding and knowledge of psychological wellness. Guest speakers with different areas of expertise will be invited to share their knowledge and experience. The talks and workshops provide valuable insights and practical strategies to maintain and improve mental health.
  2. Mental Health First Aid Training: Through this 12-hour certificate course, students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to support individuals who are developing mental illness or are in a mental health crisis. Students will learn how to identify problems early, assess risks, provide immediate support, and encourage professional help. Students who complete the course will receive a certificate, which is acknowledged by the Mental Health First Aid International.
  3. Peer Caring Workshops: These workshops provide students with a deeper understanding of mental health and help them identify peers in emotional distress. Students will also learn comforting communication skills to support their friends effectively.
