Professor Wong Ming-hung, Advisor (Environmental Science) at the Department of Science and Environmental Studies, The Education University of Hong Kong, has been elected as a Foreign Member of the Earth Sciences division, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) in 2025. He is among 39 distinguished scholars from 20 countries and the only professor in Hong Kong to receive the honour in 2025. This prestigious recognition acknowledges his groundbreaking work that integrates traditional ecology with modern environmental science.

Professor Wong has significantly contributed to pollution and restoration ecology, focusing on pollutant behaviour, ecotoxicology, bioremediation, and ecological restoration. His research has profoundly influenced theoretical frameworks and practical methodologies for environmental protection.

Founded in 1724, RAS is Russia’s foremost scientific institution, celebrated for its historic contributions to global research. Election to the Academy is highly competitive and recognises only those with exceptional scholarly achievements, making it one of the highest academic honours in Russia and worldwide.
