EdUHK Receives HK$5 million Donation from Orange Osmanthus Foundation to Advance Integration of Education and Technology
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has received a generous donation of HK$5 million from The Hong Kong Orange Osmanthus Foundation Limited to support its newly established Global Institute for New Media, Arts, Culture and Education (GI-NMACE). The donation will be used to advance research and practice in integrating education and technology, benefitting a wide range of teachers, students, and the community at large.
The donation ceremony was held on 21 January at EdUHK. Mr Bu Weihua, President of the Foundation, representing the Foundation; Ms Yao Yuan, General Manager of Wuhan Binyuan Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Hong Kong Byte Intelligence Institute, representing Mr Wang Haitao, the Chairman, presented the cheque. It was received by Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, and Assistant Vice President (Regional Outreach) and Associate Co-Director of Academy for Educational Development and Innovation (AEDI) Professor Philip Li Hui.
The ceremony was witnessed by distinguished guests including Foundation member, Mr Chen Yuanbo, Director of the Wuhan Binyuan Energy Technology Co., Ltd and Hong Kong Byte Intelligence Institute, Mr Wang Lei, Chairman of Silk Road Vision (Beijing) Education Technology Co., Ltd., Ms Judy Kong Ka-wai, Director of Alumni Affairs and Development, Dr Sun Zhen, Assistant Project Manager of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Brain and Child Research at the Academy of Education Development and Innovation (ABC-RC), and Dr Qu Tong, Project Officer of the Master’s Programme in New Media and Social Media at the Academy.
Professor Lee expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Foundation for its dedication to education, and its generous support for the EdUHK’s research and teaching endeavours. The Foundation’s philanthropic contribution reflects the foresight and commitment of outstanding enterprises and entrepreneurs to the cause of education. “EdUHK is committed to promoting educational innovation and interdisciplinary research,” he remarked. “We have recently launched a three year project, ‘Artificial Intelligence, New Media, Social Media and the Future of Education: Cross Generational, Multi Stakeholder Exploration,’ which is a concrete embodiment of this vision. The project focuses on how AI and new media influence learning and communication of different groups, with the aim of providing forward-looking recommendations for education policy and practice,” he added.
EdUHK has long been committed to promoting educational innovation and interdisciplinary research, particularly in exploring AI, new media, and the future of education, actively engaging in international collaborations. With the rapid development of AI, the definition and practice of media literacy continue to evolve, making new media skills an essential competency for talent. While EdUHK established the GI-NMACE to promote related research and practice, this funding will support in-depth research and the dissemination of project outcomes, including regional and international conferences, academic publications, and innovative applications. This further drives the integration of education and technology to benefit more teachers, students, and all of society.
