EdUHK Receives HK$5 million Donation from Koo’s Giving Charitable Foundation
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has received a generous donation of HK$5 million from Koo’s Giving Charitable Foundation to support a new educational initiative entitled ‘School Aspire’ under its ‘Project Aspire’. The donation will allow the provision of effective academic and professional support to high-functioning autism spectrum disorder (ASD) students and young adults, enhancing their competencies in academic pursuits and integration into school and work life.
The donation ceremony, held at the headquarters of HSBC, was attended by Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK; Ms Lydia Koo, Chair of Koo’s Giving Charitable Foundation; Ms Cecilia Fok and members of EdUHK’s senior management.
Professor Lee expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Koo’s Giving Charitable Foundation and Ms Koo, highlighting the contributions of Ms Fok and Mrs Ip Fok, founder of Project Aspire, for their kind effort. “Ms Koo, Chairperson of Koo’s Giving Charitable Foundation, shares a deep passion and sense of mission for students with special educational needs, which aligns with EdUHK’s philosophy of ‘education for all.’” He added, “We firmly believe that every student with special educational needs deserves to be valued and given opportunities to grow and develop.”
Established in 2010, Koo’s Giving Charitable Foundation is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of youths with special educational needs (SEN) amid the rising number of diagnosed children. The foundation is committed to working with organisations to provide essential support, resources and opportunities to less privileged children, and help them navigate and thrive in their communities. Since 2014, Koo’s Giving Charitable Foundation has been supporting Project Aspire to provide services for students with ASD.
As the only university in Hong Kong which focuses on teacher education, EdUHK has long been dedicated to assisting children with ASD in their growth and fostering a friendly and inclusive environment. The School Aspire initiative will run from September 2025 to August 2029, offering training courses for K3 to S6 students with ASD, their parents, teachers and related professionals. The initiative is also designed to transfer knowledge to reach broader beneficiaries while creating internship opportunities for people with ASD through their participation in development and implementation.
