EdUHK Opens West Kowloon Study Centre to Advance Interdisciplinary Learning

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is pleased to announce the official opening of its West Kowloon Study Centre (Austin Road) at the Xiqu Centre in the West Kowloon Cultural District today (31 October). This new facility marks EdUHK’s third urban study centre outside its Tai Po campus, following the North Point and Tseung Kwan O Study Centres. It reflects the University's ongoing commitment to expanding its urban footprint, promoting cultural and arts education, as well as creating new opportunities for learning and teaching.

Spanning over 6,300 square feet, the centre houses two well-equipped classrooms and a multifunctional space to support diverse learning and teaching modes. These areas can also be used for seminars, workshops, public lectures, and student activities. Additional facilities include a learning commons, a discussion room, and other supporting spaces - all designed to provide a flexible and interactive educational environment that encourages knowledge exchange and cultural integration.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, EdUHK Council Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar said, “The establishment of the West Kowloon Study Centre in the heart of Hong Kong’s cultural hub signifies the University's dedication to integrating education with the arts, empowering the next generation to cultivate diverse perspectives and cultural literacy.”

EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin added, “The strategic location of the new study centre aligns with EdUHK’s Strategic Plan 2025-2031. The University will develop more initiatives, promoting teaching and research interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange, while reinforcing resource synergy between EdUHK and different sectors, furthering EdUHK’s leading role in education, humanities and related areas. I am confident that the new study centre will inspire teachers and students to pursue innovative projects that contribute to local, national and global educational development.”

Starting in the 2025/26 academic year, the centre will serve as the primary teaching venue for 10 master’s programmes and one (school) manager training programme, covering education, arts, culture, and interdisciplinary fields. Its central location will significantly reduce commuting time for faculty and students, effectively enhancing the classroom experience and learning efficiency.  For added convenience, students can also submit their assignments directly at one-site reception counter.
