With the support of the Belt and Road Office of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, the competition aimed to encourage secondary school students to gain a deeper understanding of the Belt and Road Initiative, broaden their international perspectives, and cultivate global competitiveness among the younger generation.
The competition kicked off in September with a preliminary round, in which 160 senior secondary students from 40 schools took part. The final round featured five school teams that advanced from the preliminaries, with the Commissioner for Belt and Road, Mr Nicholas Ho Lik-chi, and EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin attended the event as officiating guests.

After intense competition, Sing Yin Secondary School emerged as the champion. Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Fut Nam College took second place, Hong Kong Taoist Association The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 2 Secondary School came third, while Law Ting Pong Secondary School and Valtorta College won fourth place and the merit award, respectively.

He noted that the competition brought together high-achieving students, nurturing their competencies and broad perspectives, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of the Belt and Road Initiative. Mr Ho also encouraged students to actively explore the history, culture, and current advancements of countries involved in the initiative and to capitalise on the opportunities arising from this collaborative effort.
In his welcome address, Professor John Lee Chi-Kin highlighted that the competition provided a valuable platform for students to showcase their talents and expand their global outlook. He stressed that the competition aimed to deepen secondary school students’ understanding of policies, economics, and cultural aspects related to the Belt and Road Initiative, while nurturing talent for Hong Kong SAR's active participation in the national strategy. Professor Lee also mentioned the University's ongoing collaborations with institutions in Belt and Road countries, such as the Philippines, Myanmar, and Indonesia to promote cross-cultural exchange.
