EdUHK Honours Student Outstanding Achievements and Encourages Diverse Development at Awards Presentation Ceremony 2025
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted the presentation ceremony on 6 May for the 2024/25 edition of the President’s Commendation Scheme and Whole Person Development Awards - Dean of Students’ List. Also presented were 102 scholarships awarded in 2023/24, celebrating the achievements of 790 students in academia, community service and personal development. This event embodies EdUHK's strategic development of ‘Education Futures, Diverse Talents’.
EdUHK Senior Management in attendance included President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, Vice President (Research and Development) Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Vice President (Administration) Dr Tom Fong Wing-ho, Associate Vice President (Internationalisation) Professor Lo Sing-kai, Associate Vice President (Research) Professor Ken Yung Kin-lam, Associate Vice President (Mainland Engagement and Development) and Director of Communications and Engagement Ms Helen Gai Huixia, as well as Dean of Students Professor Bill Yeung Chi-ho. Member of the Board of Stewards of the EdUHK Foundation Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak, and EdUHK Council student member Ms Gemma Cunanan Sitchon also attended the ceremony.
In his welcome remarks, Professor Lee noted that the University had entered a new phase of development following its 30th Anniversary with the 2025-2031 Strategic Development Plan focusing on Education Futures. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the scholarship donors for their generous contribution and support, as well as to the academic staff for their selfless dedication. Meanwhile, he also offered congratulations to the award-winning students for their endeavours, spirit of service, potential, and leadership.
“You have shown that you are not just the leaders of tomorrow but the changemakers of today. These scholarships and awards are both a recognition of your past achievements and a vote of confidence in your future potential. Wherever your dreams may take you, continue to shine in the area in which you excel and carry with you the values of integrity, innovation and contribute to society that we instil here at the University,” Professor Lee said.
The ceremony commenced with the presentation of the 2024/25 President’s Commendation Scheme award recipients. Among the seven awardees, three students received the President’s Commendation award. One was Kok Yu-hang, a Year 1 student of Master of Education Programme, who won the award in the area of Community Service. He is committed to promoting inclusive sports education for people with special education needs in the community, and helping children with special needs integrate into mainstream society. Another was Cheung Hoi-yuen, a Year 1 student of Master of Arts in Chinese Studies (Language Education) Programme, who won the award in the area of Sports. She has won numerous awards in various judo competitions, and has actively participated in sports promotion activities on- and off-campus. A third was, Jaclyn Tsang Hei, a Year 1 student of Doctor of Philosophy Programme, who also won the award in Sports, and is keen on bench pressing and constantly breaks through barriers.
The President's Appreciation award was conferred on four students. One was Cloof Siu Chun-ping, a Year 4 student of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Secondary) (Information and Communication Technology) Programme, who won the award in Innovation, Science and Technology. Three other winners of the President’s Appreciation in Sports were Tommy Wong Haunting, a Year 2 student of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports Science and Coaching Programme, Mak Cheuk-wing, a Year 2 student of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Physical Education) Programme, and Ho Cheuk-kiu, a Year 1 student of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Physical Education) Programme.
In addition, five students were presented with the ‘Whole Person Development Awards – Dean of Students’ List’ for 2024/25.
Professor Bill Yeung Chi-ho also expressed his warmest congratulations to the award recipients. “EdUHK is committed to nurturing a new generation equipped with professional knowledge and a passion for humanity,” he said. “The essence of education lies in helping students find their own path. We hope that every student here will discover their unique calling and shine in their respective fields, becoming a force for social progress.”
The President’s Commendation Scheme recognises students’ distinguished achievements in areas beyond academic studies, including arts and culture, community service, leadership, sports, and innovation, science and technology. Since its inception in 2010, over 150 students and groups have been commended, which marks a significant milestone in EdUHK’s commitment to whole-person education.
Additionally, the Whole Person Development Awards scheme recognises students’ achievements in the area of non-formal learning, including the Whole Person Development Certificate, Whole Person Development Advanced Certificate and the Dean of Students’ List (the highest level).
To encourage well-rounded development, EdUHK provides a variety of scholarships supported by donations, in the areas of academic and professional achievements, personal qualities, contributions to the community, and the specific criteria set by individual scholarship donors.
