EdUHK Holds 2025 Student Fair – EdUHK Lunar New Year Fair Promoting Entrepreneurial and Innovative Spirit Among Local Students
To cultivate an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit among students, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted a two-day ‘2025 Student Fair – EdUHK Lunar New Year Fair’ on 25 and 26 January. This event provided an opportunity for the University’s students and alumni, teachers and students from primary, secondary, and special schools to integrate classroom learning, practise an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, as well as showcase the learning outcomes.
Organised by the Library and the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Education (CEIE) at EdUHK, the Student Fair was held at PMQ in Central. It featured 50 stalls operated by EdUHK students and alumni, as well as students and teachers of primary, secondary and special schools. The Student Fair offered a wide array of items, including ceramic products, handmade ornaments and jewellery, eco-friendly products, and unique handicrafts designed by young artists with special educational needs, reflecting the University's commitment to promoting inclusivity through various activities.
A live music area was also set up by EdUHK students, alumni, and primary and secondary students, providing an excellent platform to showcase their talent. This year marks the fifth time since 2019 that EdUHK has hosted the Student Market. The number of participating schools has grown from just a few to 21 secondary, primary and special schools participating in stall operation or music performances, highlighting the growing significance of entrepreneurship and innovation education.
The Student Fair also places a special focus on cultivating participants' corporate social responsibility. All participants are required to donate 10% of their net profits to a charity of their choice. Additionally, their booths or products must align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), encouraging them to consider how they can make a positive impact on society while pursuing profit. This year's “Best Business Plan” award was won by the EdUHK student team “aSTONEish.lab”. Their products are made from environmentally friendly resins and sustainable materials, including shell fragments, stones, and glass pieces. These handcrafted vases and decorative plates demonstrate how typically discarded materials can be upcycled and creatively repurposed, giving them new value and significance.
EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin said, “Under the theme 'Education Futures, Diverse Talents', EdUHK will continue to adapt contemporary trends, offering our students diverse learning and practical opportunities. The Student Fair aims to cultivate students’ innovative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit, encouraging them to embrace their corporate social responsibilities while pursuing commercial goals.”
EdUHK alumna and Co-Founder of TOCAT Creative Ltd, Ms Gloria Chan, who first participated in the Student Market last year, is involved again this year as a supporting organisation. She has not only taught EdUHK student participants social media promotion skills prior to the Student Fair but also designed a lively and adorable mascot photo-taking area featuring her Intellectual Property (IP) character, “TOMIDO”. Gloria said, “I am delighted to participate in the EdUHK Student Fair once again and witness the growth and creativity of my junior fellows. We not only share knowledge but also continue the legacy of EdUHK, which makes me extremely proud.”
