PhD Candidate Awarded Ernst Mach Grant from Austria
Mr Herbary Zhang Yu, a PhD candidate at the Department of Asian and Policy Studies, The Education University of Hong Kong, has been awarded the Ernst Mach Grant – Worldwide by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research to conduct a study on gender, migration and intersectionality at University of Salzburg this autumn.
Zhang received the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme to pursue his doctoral studies at the University. Under the supervision of Dr Isabella Ng Fung-sheung, Associate Head (Teaching and Learning) and Assistant Professor of the Department of Asian and Policy Studies, he studied single-mothers’ intersectional stigma and social exclusion in Thailand. Zhang was also awarded two research fellowships, one by Mahidol University and the other by Chulalongkorn University, the top two universities in Thailand, in recognition of the impact of his research project.
