Household Finance and Investor Protection International Symposium
The Household Finance and Investor Protection International Symposium was held on 15 March 2024 at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), with support from the Beijing-Hong Kong Universities Alliance. Dr Chow Man-kong, Associate Vice President (Institutional Advancement) of EdUHK and Dr Fox Hu Zhiyong, Acting Head of Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies (SSPS) were on hand to welcome the participants.
The symposium facilitated a collaborative platform where participants could exchange knowledge, research findings, and best practices related to household finance and investor protection. Distinguished scholars presented their research on various topics including financial literacy, investor behaviour, investment strategies, and regulatory frameworks.
Two experts in finance delivered keynote speeches at the symposium.
- Professor Sumit Agarwal, Professor of Economics and Real Estate and Low Tuck Kwong Distinguished Professor of Finance at the National University of Singapore, spoke on the topic “From Efficiency to Excess: Understanding Utility Usage in Green-Certified Homes”.
- Professor Gu Minkang, Associate Co-Director of the Academy for Applied Policy Studies and Education Futures of EdUHK also conveyed a keynote speech on the theme of “Fiduciary Duty and its Application in Personal Finance”.
International scholars from the universities in Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore conducted in-depth academic discussions on the topics including financial literacy, investor behaviour, investment strategies, and financial regulation. They were as follows:
- Professor Abhiroop Mukherjee at the Department of Finance, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, on “Sanctions, Satellites, Suspect Ships”
- Professor Su Song , Professor at Department of Digital Economy and Management, and Director of Financial Literacy Education Research Centre, Beijing Normal University, on “Financial Literacy of Chinese Residents: Empirical Study Based on a National Survey”
- Professor Jiang Ping, Professor at Department of Finance, University of International Business and Economics, on “Question Dodging, Information Environment, and Analyst Forecasts”
- Dr Wang Yonglin, Assistant Professor at Department of Economics, Lingnan University, on “The Digital Revolution: Bridging the Information Gap in the Consumer Credit Market”
- Dr Zhang Jian, Assistant Professor at Department of Finance, The University of Hong Kong, on “Dirty Air and Green Investments: The Impact of Pollution Information on Portfolio Allocations”
- Dr Tan Weiqiang, Associate Professor at Department of SSPS, EdUHK, briefly introduced the latest research outcome on “Subjective Financial Literacy and Retirement Planning”
The symposium was attended by staff members and students at EdUHK, and also members of the public.
