EdUHK Women’s Volleyball Team Finish Runners-Up at USFHK Volleyball Competition
The Women’s Volleyball Team of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) finished second in the USFHK Volleyball Competition organised by the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China (USFHK) on 15 March. It was the team’s best result in eight years.
The team performed outstandingly throughout the competition. During the group stage, they won five matches in-a-row, finishing top of their group. In the semi-finals, they defeated their opponents in straight sets, through excellent technique and great teamwork, advancing to the final.
In the early stages of the final, both teams were evenly matched, but the EdUHK team fell behind in the first two sets. With the support of President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, Vice President (Research and Development) Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, and around 100 cheering students and staff, the team fought back to win the third set. It was a fast-paced match, full of thrilling moments, demonstrating the team’s resilience and indomitable spirit.
In recent years, the EdUHK Women’s Volleyball Team has made consistent progress, moving up a place each year, from fifth place in the 2021-2022 season to this year’s second place, marking another step forward in the team’s growth and strength.
Professor Lee sent a congratulatory letter to the team for their outstanding performance. “Having the opportunity to watch the final alongside around 100 EdUHK staff and students was truly an exhilarating experience for me. The team’s perseverance and teamwork throughout the match deeply moved me. Despite facing challenges in the first two sets, your resilience in bouncing back to win the third ignited the passion of everyone present, including myself,” he wrote.
He added that success was not solely defined by winning championships, and that finishing second place was also an extraordinary accomplishment and an inspiration for us to strive for even better results next time. He expressed his pride in the achievements of the team and wished them continued success in their future competitions and endeavours.
