EdUHK Students Set off for Volunteer Teaching in Shaoshan, Hunan
Twenty students from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) were selected to participate in a cross-border volunteer teaching assistance programme organised by China Resources Group and supported by China Resources Enterprise and the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers (HKFEW). The participants will spend two-to-three weeks at schools in China Resources Hope Town, located in Shaoshan, Hunan, from May 2023. Apart from providing teaching assistance, they will participate in cultural exchange activities, experience agricultural work, and visit local enterprises to gain an understanding of the benefits brought by rural revitalisation and national development.
A sending-off ceremony was held on the EdUHK campus on 25 May. In a pre-recorded address, Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President (Designate) and Vice President (Academic) and Provost, encouraged the participating students to seize this invaluable opportunity to observe the teaching environment and the approach of mainland schools. Such experience could help broaden their horizons, and lay a solid foundation for their future career in education. Professor Lee reminded students to apply what they learn in their daily lives, pass on teacher’s moral standards, demonstrate professionalism in education, and influence others positively.
Those attending the ceremony included Miss Alice Mak Mei-kuen, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs; Professor Song Lai, Deputy Director-General and Inspector I of the Department of Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr Chen Ying, Assistant General Manager of China Resources Group, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of China Resources Enterprise; Hon Chu Kwok-keung, LegCo member and Vice Chairman of HKFEW; and Dr Sammy Hui King-fai, Associate Vice President (Student Learning) at EdUHK.
