Guan, who is studying her fourth year of the Bachelor of Social Science Education (Honours) (Greater China Studies) programme, teamed up with a student from New York University to conduct a case study entitled, “Sham Shui Po is the New Brooklyn”: Could New Cultural Industry and the Original Community Coexist?. After two rounds of selection, conducted between May and August, Guan’s team – with the guidance and support from Dr Fox Hu Zhiyong, Associate Professor at EdUHK’s Department of Asian and Policy Studies – entered the final online competition and was named the winner from 13 undergraduate teams.
Co-organised by the China Case Center for Public Policy and Management and the Institute for Sustainable Development Goals of Tsinghua University, the competition attracted 147 undergraduate and master’s students from 53 universities from Australia, China, Germany, Ireland, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Participants selected case topics focusing on the 17 SDGs of the United Nations, conducted research and interviews, and identified innovative public policy solutions to sustainable development problems.
