EdUHK Hosts Hong Kong and Mainland Recruitment and Networking Expo A Platform for Non-local Students Exploring Job Opportunities
The Student Affairs Office (SAO) of the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted the Hong Kong and Mainland Recruitment and Networking Expo (Expo) at Tai Po campus on 22 and 23 January as a platform for students to explore employment opportunities brought by 20 employers and organisations from Hong Kong and the Mainland, especially the Greater Bay Area, which attracted over 400 student participants. Supported by EdUHK Mainland Alumni Association and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base, the Expo facilitated students’ job hunting and employer networking to understand and apply various internship, full-time and part-time positions through a variety of career activities including Expo preparation workshops, a high-table networking platform, employer booth exhibition and three guided tours on 22 January.
To echo with the Policy Address in 2023 and 2024 regarding the increasing admission quota of non-local students since the 2024/25 academic year, and creating the brand of “Study in Hong Kong” respectively, supporting non-local students in their campus life and job hunting has been a major focus of EdUHK. As such, the Expo placed a specific focus on the career needs of non-local students, such as job openings for non-Cantonese speaking positions. Leveraging on the unique positioning and resources of Hong Kong Talent Engage (HKTE) in supporting incoming talents’ adaptation to Hong Kong such as the career development for talents under Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) Scheme, HKTE was invited to share valuable insights about incoming talents staying in Hong Kong and raise non-local students’ awareness of the available career resources in supporting them to develop their career pathways and job hunting in Hong Kong, laying down their pathway from “Study in Hong Kong” to “Work in Hong Kong”.
In addition, the Expo also aimed to equip students with practical knowledge and skills for building careers in Hong Kong through panel discussions, workshops and talks on 23 January. The panel discussion featured prominent speakers, including the Chairman of EdUHK Mainland Alumni Association Mr Charles Cai, and founder of Heart Do Education Limited and President of Peking University HSBC Business School Master of Business Administration Hong Kong Alumni Association, Mr Li Jinjiang. Students learnt the difference in work culture and job hunting between Hong Kong and Mainland. The founder of Tokalent Mr Winston Tse delivered an industry talk focusing on how to find suitable jobs in the digital era, equipping students with essential skills and practical tips for modern job hunting. Subsequently, a hands-on workshop was organised by SAO to urge students to take action in reviewing the career opportunities and resources in the Expo and setting goals for their career development.
EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin and HKTE Deputy Director Ms Anna Au Suet-man attended the ceremony and delivered speeches at the opening ceremony of the Expo. In his welcome address, Professor Lee remarked on the significant role Hong Kong SAR played in the overall development of the nation, as highlighted in the ‘14th Five-Year Plan’, including the proactive integration into the overall development of the country. The Expo served as a platform for students from diverse backgrounds to explore job opportunities in both Hong Kong and Mainland. Professor Lee encouraged them to take part in the Expo, and seize the opportunity to chart their career paths and pursue their professional ambitions.
EdUHK has long been committed to supporting students’ career development, by equipping them with the major employability components including knowledge, skill and network. Further to the career-action-oriented Expo with a wide range of hands-on skills and actual job opportunities offered to students, the University looks forward to collaborating with various organizations across different regions to support students in soaring their career development and contributing to the future of the nation and Hong Kong.
