ECE Alumni Awarded for Teaching Excellence

ECE Alumni Awarded for Teaching Excellence

In appreciation of kindergarten teachers’ exemplary performance, the 2018 Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence paid tribute to early childhood educators.

Three EdUHK alumni from two kindergartens were honoured for their enthusiasm for arts education and inclusive education.

TWGHs Ko Teck Kin Memorial Kindergarten

Yeung Shuk-yee and Lee So-kuen, graduates of Certificate of Education (Early Childhood Education) (CE(ECE)) programme

Yeung and Lee developed a school-based arts curriculum that connected teaching across six learning areas to foster children’s all-round development.

With the skilful use of picture books, the two awardees reinvented student learning experiences. Unlike conventional reading classes, the classes they created blended dancing, singing and the visual arts for students. By seamlessly interweaving cross-disciplinary studies, the awardees ensured that lessons were no longer limited to single subjects, and that students were given more room to exercise their creativity, fully stretch their bodies and express themselves.

Natalie Chan Hiu-lan, a graduate of CE(ECE) and Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) programme

Chan always goes the extra mile. She uses drawing and singing as forms of counselling. She works with parents to teach non-Chinese speaking children. Her students have shown remarkable progress thanks to the greater parental involvement in their studies. She embraces early identification and early intervention for children with special educational needs.

The award recognises outstanding teachers in Hong Kong.
