Dr Ronnel B. King, Assistant Professor at the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, The Education University of Hong Kong, was presented with the Michael Harris Bond Early Career Award on 13 July 2019 by the Asian Association of Social Psychology. This award is given to early career researchers who have made significant contributions to Asian social psychology.

Dr King has had more than 100 journal articles, book chapters, and edited books published. His work focuses on uncovering the factors that underpin student motivation and well-being, and developing positive psychology interventions to cultivate these optimal psychological states.

The award recognises Dr King’s work in uncovering socio-cultural aspects of student motivation using a culturally informed perspective to understand motivation and learning in Asian settings. This is reflected in his book titled The Psychology of Asian Learners: A Festschrift in Honour of David Watkins (Springer) and a special issue he edited in the British Journal of Educational Psychology.
