To strengthen curriculum development and expand the teaching and research network of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) with primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) launched the “Chinese Language Learning and Teaching Collaboration Network”. Thirty-seven principals, head teachers, and experts in Chinese language and literature from local and international schools were invited to serve as consultants for the Network. 

In the opening speech at the online inauguration ceremony held on 18 December 2020, Professor John Lee Chi-kin, Vice President (Academic) and Provost, pointed out that the Network would strengthen the ties and communication between EdUHK and secondary and primary schools in Hong Kong. He introduced some recent EdUHK projects whose aim is to improve teaching and learning, including the “Jockey Club from Words to Culture Programme: An Animated Way to Learn Chinese,” “Learning History through Watching Animation,” and “Chinese e-learning in Primary School”.

Professor Si Chung-mou, Head of CHL, expressed his gratitude to the consultants for their support for the Network and introduced various CHL achievements in teaching and learning. Dr Ho Chi-hang, Associate Head of CHL, delineated the objectives and strategic plan of the Network.

During the ceremony, Dr Chiu Cheung-ki, Principal of Chan Shu Kui Memorial School, and Mr Yu Huiling, Learning and Teaching Adviser for the English Schools Foundation, delivered talks on language education and international Chinese education, respectively, which stimulated discussions among the consultants and university members.

The “Chinese Language Learning and Teaching Collaboration Network” is committed to building a professional platform for Chinese language education, sharing high-quality learning and teaching resources, organising teaching and research activities to promote the exchange of teaching experience and resources, strengthening Chinese language curriculum development, and improving teaching effectiveness to benefit more schools and students.
