The Symposium for Hong Kong New Generations of Cantonese Opera Playwriting 2021 is co-presented by the Research Centre for Transmission of Cantonese Opera of The Education University of Hong Kong and the Xiqu Centre, with the support of Elmond’s Cantonese Xiqu Culture Promotion and Production Workshop, and the Society of Cantonese Opera Study (Hong Kong).

Exploring the contemporary situation of the new generation of Cantonese opera playwrights and performers in Hong Kong, the forum considers the cultural identity of Cantonese opera as a 21st-century world intangible cultural heritage, past and future developments in Cantonese opera playwriting and performance practice, and related cultural policies.
