The awards scheme was funded by the Elder Academy Development Foundation (EADF) and was organised by the EdUHK Elder Academy and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong. It is the first-ever, territory-wide initiative that aims to recognise and reward distinguished teachers, who have demonstrated outstanding performance and professional commitment to the teaching and learning of elders across Hong Kong.

The selection process involved the nomination of candidates, submission of an application with a teaching portfolio, and finally a selection interview with shortlisted candidates. After a thorough review of the application documentation and the face-to-face interviews, 10 awardees were selected from among 50 applications, where four were awarded the ‘Gold Award’ and six the ‘Silver Award’.
