EdUHK’s Team Achieves Outstanding Success at Hong Kong Techathon+ 2026
The flagship annual cross-universities entrepreneurship competition, Hong Kong Techathon+, concluded in late January. The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) proudly announced its remarkable achievements, including winning the gold award in the Trusted AI & Data Science (Student Group) category.
Marked its 10th edition in 2026, Hong Kong Techathon+ is a premier intercollegiate innovation competition jointly organised by Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks (HKSTP) and 15 local universities and institutions, including EdUHK. This year’s event attracted over 1,900 participants from more than 470 teams worldwide, representing universities from Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United States.
EdUHK’s student teams demonstrated exceptional innovation and technical excellence, securing prestigious awards across multiple categories. Their success underscores the University’s commitment to fostering education-driven innovation, integrating AI and sustainable solutions to create meaningful societal impact. The winning projects include:
Gold Award in Trusted AI & Data Science (Student Group): SpeakRight
Co-developed by EdUHK student, SpeakRight is a transformative AI-powered solution designed to revolutionise language learning by enabling users to master pronunciation effectively through intelligent feedback.
Bronze Award in Sustainability & ESG (Student Group): NaCore Drive
Led by EdUHK students, NaCore Drive is a pioneering water-based sodium-ion battery with patented technology, recognised for its potential to deliver reliable, low-temperature energy storage solutions supporting sustainable development.
Merit Award in Tech FYP Group: Werewolf Oral
Developed by an EdUHK student team, Werewolf Oral is an immersive gamified English speaking practice tool, evolved from a final-year project, exemplifying innovative educational technology with its engaging learning approach.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that EdUHK has co-organised the Techathon+, reflecting the University’s dedication to nurturing future leaders in technology and entrepreneurship. Professor Ken Yung Kin-lam, Associate Vice President (Knowledge Transfer and Sustainability), officiated at the competition, while the Knowledge Transfer Sub-office provided mentorship and valuable advice to all EdUHK participants.
