The Scheme aims to create an informal, friendly platform for students to learn each other’s languages and cultures through peer interaction. Through regular meet-ups and fun language exchange activities, paired students will be able to engage in relaxed and authentic language practice, establish friendships, and develop cultural understanding beyond the classroom.
In Semester 2 (2025/26), the Scheme is offering three pairing options for undergraduate and post-graduate students:
• Cantonese ↔ English
• Putonghua ↔ English
• Cantonese ↔ Putonghua
Students will be paired according to their stated language preferences and availability. Language buddies are expected to complete the following together:

| 1. Two monthly group activities at ASLLC | 2. Bi-weekly language exchange sessions on campus or outside classroom |
| 3. Completion of the Buddy Challenge |
The Scheme runs through Semester 2 (Feb – Apr), and language buddies are encouraged to meet bi-weekly for informal language practice. In addition to these self-arranged meet-ups, they are required to 1) attend at least two learning activities organized by CLE which may include themed cultural workshops, language games and gatherings, and 2) complete the Buddy Challenge.
Upon completing the Scheme and submitting a short reflection form, language buddies will receive a Certificate of Participation as recognition of their commitment and engagement.
